Guest lectures: Prof. Wojciech Szczeklik and Prof. Piotr Gajewski
This November we will be honored to host two internal medicine expert researchers, physicians, and teachers, for an open guest lecture session. The distinguished guests: Prof. Wojciech Szczeklik and Prof. Piotr Gajewski, will be speaking on November 8, 2024 at 3:30pm in Room A in PUMS Library-Congress Center at 37a Przybyszewskiego St.
„What is needed to carry out a breakthrough research?” – Prof. Wojciech Szczeklik, MD, PhD
Dr. Wojciech Szczeklik received his medical degree from Jagiellonian University Medical College. After medical school he completed residency in Internal Medicine, followed by Immune diseases and Anesthesia with Critical Care, and received PhD at Jagiellonian University Medical College. His foreign clinical and research experience include University College in London, Harvard University, University of Cambridge and McMaster University. The focus of his research is perioperative medicine with special interest in vascular complications around the time of noncardiac surgery, and critical care. Dr. Szczeklik has published more than 300 peer-reviewed publications, and authored more than 30 book chapters (H-index 46). He received several research awards for his research and as a teacher.
Dr. Wojciech Szczeklik currently holds a position of Professor and Head of Center for Intensive Care and Perioperative Medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College and Head of Anesthesia and Intensive Care Department at the Military Hospital in Krakow.
He is affiliated as a visiting professor with McMaster University in Hamilton, Canada.
“Where to find reliable medical knowledge on the cusp of the AI era” - Piotr Gajewski, MD, PhD, FACP
Dr. Piotr Gajewski studied medicine at the Jagiellonian University Medical College and graduated with honours in 1987. In 1993 he completed residency in internal medicine and earned his PhD in 1999. He worked for several years in the Department of Internal Medicine at Jagiellonian University Medical College.
Dr. Gajewski is Vice President of the Polish Society of Internal Medicine and Chairman of the Commission for Postgraduate and Continued Education of the Society. Dr. Gajewski is also a Fellow of the American College of Physicians. In 1990 Dr Gajewski co-founded and editor-in-chief of Medycyna Praktyczna, the most reputable Polish medical publishing house specialising in high-quality journals and books for medical professionals.
Dr. Gajewski is the co-author and editor-in-chief of a textbook of internal medicine. The textbook has editions in Polish (Interna Szczeklika), English (McMaster Textbook of Internal Medicine), Spanish (Medicina Interna Basada en la Evidencia) and Ukrainian (Внутрішні хвороби). Dr. Gajewski is also a co-editor and co-author of a Polish textbook on the principles of evidence-based medicine. In 2003 he co-founded the Polish Institute for Evidence Based Medicine, and has since served as its President.
Dr. Gajewski co-chairs the organizing committees of two annual international educational conferences: McMaster International Review Conference of Internal Medicine (since 2015) and Medical Review Auschwitz: Medicine Behind the Barbed Wire (since 2018).
